FAQS
WHAT ARE THE POPULAR VISA OPTIONS?
-
If you are 30 (UK) /35 (Irish) or under and hold a passport from an eligible country (check the immigration website) you can qualify for a 12-month Working Holiday/Work and Holiday Visa.
-
If you are older than 30/35 or already had a Working Holiday Visa or want to stay for more than 1 year, there are opportunities to gain sponsorship by an employer (you will need 2 years experience and we can introduce you to our partners who can offer this). Sponsorship has a pathway to permanent residency after 3 years (if you are under 45) and you can add children/your partner.
HOW DO I GET REGISTERED?
-
All experience levels are eligible to apply for registration
-
The application is paperwork based - there are no exams but all overseas trained OT's going through the Australian registration process have to work under supervision for the first 6 months
-
You will be able to talk to a UK healthcare professional who has been in your situation and will help you throughout the registration process - including free guides and unlimited phone/email support
-
The registration process takes a minimum of 4 months but the more time you allow the better!
HOW MUCH DO I NEED TO SAVE?
The main fees you need to be aware of are for your Visa and transferring your OT license
-
The Working Holiday Visa costs AUD $485, for this visa application, you will need to prove you have around AUD $5000 in savings
-
The Sponsorship Visa costs AUD $2690 per adult and $696 per child
-
The registration costs AUD $2200 - this is paid directly to the board and once you are registered, it is similar to HCPC/CORU in that you just pay a small renewal fee every year.
-
Our service is completely FREE!
HOW DO I INTERVIEW AND SECURE A ROLE?
-
We have lots of great partnerships and connections to employers throughout Australia who can accommodate the supervision required for your first 6 months of practise in Australia.
-
Once you have completed the first step of the registration process, we can organise a phone call with you to discuss roles and locations making sure that you get the best fit. We will then pass you onto our partners for Skype or phone interviews so that you can secure a role before you leave.
-
We will make sure you understand the role/company and receive the correct salary for your level of experience
HOW WILL I GET SET UP/ WHAT ABOUT ACCOMMODATION?
-
Once you have secured a role we can introduce you to other healthcare workers that may be working in a location near you and advise you on everything you need to know about moving to Australia - we are always available as a point of contact so you have available support throughout your entire journey.
-
Most of our OT's book an Air B&B or hostel for 2 weeks while they look around share houses - we would really recommend this as it is a great way to meet new people - we would also really recommend joining a sports team!
WHY AUSTRALIA?
-
The culture is very similar in Australia so we find that UK/Irish trained OT's settle in very quickly - most of our OT's want to stay on longer than they planned and extend their visa!
-
Occupational Therapy is very well respected and there are lots of opportunities to really progress in your career
-
There are endless amounts of weekend trips/activities to do, this combined with generous salaries and good weather gives you a fantastic quality of life.
