NEW ZEALAND AND AUSTRALIA ARE OPEN TO HEALTHCARE WORKERS - FAQS

Q. What is the job situation like in AUS/NZ?

Australia - we have LOADS of roles available in locations throughout Australia for all levels of experience and we have made even more partners than ever! Recently, we have been securing our healthcare professionals roles within 2 weeks.

New Zealand - we have made lots of new partnerships throughout New Zealand, as this is smaller country where lots of NZ staff have returned home during the pandemic, generally the roles are a little more competitive so are best for those with at least 2 years experience/those open to different locations.

Q. When will the borders be open to everyone?

The news currently suggests that the borders will not open until mid 2022 - but don’t worry, border exemptions are available for healthcare workers!

Q. What do I need to gain a border exemption?

You must have your NZ or AUS registration and a job offer, there is also some additional paperwork needed - we can fully support you with all of this!

Q. What is the timeline after gaining registration to be able to arrive in AUS/NZ?

Usually 2-3 months

Q. Do I have to complete a 2 week hotel quarantine if I have had the vaccine?

Yes

Q. Do I need to book hotel quarantine?

Yes for New Zealand, No for Australia

Q. Are the employers paying for quarantine?

There is a mixture where some employers are paying for the full fees, others half and some not at all - this largely depends on the funding available, the size of the company and location of the role.

Q. How does the border exemption process work?

We are very successful with the border exemption/visa process for both AUS/NZ. We can fully support you with this once you have gained your registration and we have secured you a role.

Q. Can I bring a partner with me?

Yes, you can bring a partner with you if you can prove you are in a long-term relationship, the main evidence immigration are looking for are that you are living together e.g. joint lease, utility/phone bills to the same address and evidence that you have a de-facto relationship e.g. joint bank accounts etc. - if you are planning on coming over together it would be good to start organising strong evidence ASAP!

Q. Once I am in NZ/AUS can I leave?

Yes, you can leave, the ban on leaving only applies to AUS/NZ permanent residents/citizens who must apply for an exemption to leave AUS/NZ.

Q. Is it hard to secure flights to AUS/NZ?

Finding flights may be a little tricky on your own, however, we can share travel agents details which our previous healthcare professionals have used during the pandemic to secure flights, which they have highly recommended.

Q. If I gain registration now, is there a time limit before I have to start work?

AUS - Physios - if you successfully pass the assessment process, you will receive a certificate which does not expire allowing you to come out at any time.

AUS - OT’s - as you need a job offer to complete the registration process, we suggest waiting to start the process until a few months before you ready to leave.

NZ - Physios + OT’s - once you pass the registration process, if you do not want to come over straight away, you can maintain your registration by paying for the annual non practising status (NZ $55) until you are ready to practise in NZ.

Q. Are registration applications being processed as normal?

Yes

Q. How is AUS/NZ managing COVID?

AUS/NZ have been two of the best countries in the world in managing the virus. They currently have very few restrictions and they are managing the situation by having all arrivals to complete 2 weeks quarantine in one their hotels, thorough contact tracing and short/snappy local lockdowns when there are just a few cases - aiming for complete eradication each time.
