COVID-19 UPDATE AS OF 22ND OCTOBER

NEW ZEALAND AND AUSTRALIA BORDERS ARE OPEN TO REGISTERED PHYSIOS + OTS WITH A JOB OFFER!

Due to these unexpected times, we want to keep you all updated with details about Healthcare Abroad, the borders and registration.

AUSTRALIA - PHYSIOS + OT’S

Despite the pandemic, this has not stopped us from having a successful year in Australia, we have secured even more partners and have even more roles available for all experience levels - it's also been great to see our Physios + OT’s enjoying their time there!

Borders/Exemptions

The borders are currently closed however, exemptions are available for critical healthcare workers including physiotherapists and occupational therapists.

This year (2021) we have been very successful with helping AUS registered Physios + OT’s gain border exemptions with both Working Holiday and Sponsorship Visas.

If you have your registration and are interested in coming over on an exemption, please get in touch. We can organise interviews for you and support you with successfully gaining a border exemption - we have plenty of roles available!

Hotel Quarantine

Australia is starting to open up (although the states are managing this differently)

Key updates:

Victoria (VIC) and New South Wales (NSW) have announced that hotel quarantine + flight caps will be scrapped from November 1st for fully vaccinated

Queensland roadmap for international travel released on the 18th October: https://www.covid19.qld.gov.au/government-actions/queenslands-covid19-vaccine-plan

If you need to complete hotel quarantine on arrival, this will be assigned on arrival - it does not need to be booked.

Keep an eye on the media for any new major changes!

PHYSIOS - Registration Important Updates

The Australian Physiotherapy Council (APC) is now able to accept registration applications digitally and exams can be sat at home with live monitoring.

Applications for the equivalence pathway are taking longer than usual due to a huge volume of applications received in the last few months.

Once you have successfully completed the registration process with APC, you will receive a certificate that does not expire allowing you to start work in Australia at a time that suits you.

PHYSIOS - Registration – for students affected by reduced placement hours

There are still options for every student affected by COVID/placement hours to gain registration in Australia.

There are no requirements around the specific number of placement hours for both the Equivalence Pathway and Exam Pathway.

The Equivalence Pathway requires evidence that all students received clinical education in the core practice areas (Cardio, MSK, Neuro), with patients throughout the lifespan and in various settings. If this was not achieved due to COVID, the university will need to provide details about the alternative methods they used to ensure students received sufficient clinical education in these areas. If this is not possible applicants may want to consider taking the exam instead.

There are no requirements for what the placements must involve for the exam pathway.

OT’s - Registration

COVID has not affected any part of the registration requirements or process.

NEW ZEALAND - PHYSIOS AND OT'S

We were always planning our expansion into New Zealand in 2020, this was put on hold for a while due to the pandemic, however, we are pleased to say we have had a really successful expansion in NZ for both physios and OT’s in 2021.

We have formed lots of fantastic partnerships - the majority of the roles we have are for those working at a senior level but we can sometimes accommodate more junior staff who are flexible with roles/locations.

Borders/Exemptions

The borders are currently closed however, exemptions are available for critical healthcare workers including Physios and OT’s.

We have partnered with an immigration expert who is successfully helping our physios/OT's with this process. Our trusted agent can help with the exemption/visa application process and we will cover our agent's fees for anyone who secures a role with one of our partners. These exemptions are currently available to NZ registered healthcare professionals who have a job offer.

If you have your NZ physiotherapy/occupational therapy registration and are interested in coming over on an exemption, please get in touch. We can organise interviews for you and support you with successfully gaining a border exemption.

Managed Isolation Quarantine/MIQ

Everyone entering NZ must complete 2 weeks hotel quarantine/MIQ which must be booked on this website: https://www.miq.govt.nz/travel-to-new-zealand/secure-your-place-in-managed-isolation/the-managed-isolation-booking-system/virtual-lobby/

It is very competitive to secure a place and it is currently a lottery system where you need to login on release days and the spaces are then randomly allocated.

Read the website above carefully and keep an eye on the media for room release dates!

PHYSIOS - Registration

The New Zealand Physiotherapy Board has received a very high volume of applications so the processing time is longer than usual - nearer to 4 months rather than the usual 2-3 months.

PHYSIOS - Registration – for students affected by reduced placement hours

The normal requirement for registration in NZ is for physios to have completed 1000 hours of placement. However, this is the response we received from the NZ board regarding students that have a shortfall in placement hours due to COVID.

If an applicant has not completed 1,000 hours of supervised physiotherapy practice gained in a variety of practice when completing a qualification where students would typically complete 1,000 hours, they must:

i. Provide an explanation from their University regarding the shortfall; and

ii. Confirm that they have completed the remaining hours in their post qualification work experience, gained in a professional supported environment. This must be in addition to any post qualification work experience they are required to have as part of the eligibility requirements.

OT’s - Registration

COVID has not affected any part of the registration requirements or process.

SKI SEASONS - PHYSIOS

We still have ski season positions available for EU passport holders for the 2021/2022 season - employers are expecting a very busy season!

HEALTHCARE ABROAD

After a tough year in 2020, we have LOVED seeing PT/OT's move abroad in 2021.

Being successful with helping PT/OT's through the challenges of a pandemic, makes us even more excited for what's to come for Healthcare Abroad!

It is 100% possible to move to AUS/NZ while the borders are closed and we are very successful with this process.

For those of you who have NZ or AUS registration and want to arrive on an exemption, please get in touch and we can look to organise interviews for you now! Otherwise, the registration process does take time so if you could see yourself working in AUS or NZ in the future, please get in touch to start the process!
